Libraries Add Economic Value to Local Communities

1 min read

Ken Detzner, Florida’s Secretary of State supports public libraries, calling them “a place of learning, a hub for educational resources, and a community center.” According to an ROI study conducted by the Haas Center for Business Research and Economic Development, University of West Florida, libraries deliver value to the areas they serve by supporting economic growth and workforce development.

For every dollar invested in Florida public libraries, Floridians receive $10.18 in economic return. Ninety percent of those who participated in a recent study consider their local public library an essential service. Seventy-six percent “would be unwilling to sell their library card at any cost.”
