Nelson Poynter, former publisher of the St. Petersburg Times, along with his wife Henrietta, founded Congressional Quarterly in 1945. Today the organization has more than 100 reporters, editors and researchers covering Capitol Hill. CQ’s readership includes 95 percent of the members of Congress, academic and media outlets.
Poynter later established CQ Press with the mission of promoting democracy through education. CQ Press is known for its objectivity, breadth and depth of coverage, and high standards of journalistic and editorial excellence. In May 2008, CQ Press was acquired by SAGE Publications, a leading international publisher of journals, books, and electronic media for academic, educational and professional markets.
