The Power to Change Lives

Earlier this year, American Library Association (ALA) President Loida Garcia-Febo joined ALA and state library leaders at the Central Library of Los Angeles for a reception to highlight the value of libraries. During the ceremony, Los Angeles City Librarian John Szabo showcased the library’s Career Online High School program, which offers adults the opportunity to earn an accredited high school diploma.

One graduate, Rosa Arredondo, spoke about how she has benefited from the program:

“Today I stand here to tell you that I believe it is never too late to achieve your dreams. The library gave me the power to change my life.”

Garcia-Febo praised the Los Angeles Public Library for its efforts in strengthening its community through model programs such as Career Online High School among many others. Read their full story >>
