How do we achieve a sense of balance within the Diverse Voices large print standing order plan? Authenticity is key to curating a selection of diverse titles every month that will resonate with readers.

To uphold this authenticity, we’ve enlisted the help of special advisory board members who are deeply rooted in their respective cultures and connected to the wider reading community. Voracious readers themselves, our advisory board of library workers guide the acquisitions of quality authors across many different genres. To date, these advisors have led us to acquire buzzy contemporary reads as well as modern classics—and we plan to go much, much further.

Initially, the Diverse Voices plan started with just two titles a month—a modest test to prove appetite for the concept. However, the plan wasn’t balanced. Diverse Voices supports authors from three distinct communities: Asian American and Pacific Islander, Indigenous North American and First Nations, and Hispanic and Latinx. Publishing just two titles a month made it challenging to balance these three perspectives within a calendar year.

We are pleased to now offer a three-title plan every month which features the experiences of all three cultures that Diverse Voices represents. Although we offer a two-title option for economy, we recommend the three-title plan for a consistent, well-rounded experience with reliable content from each culture.

Large print makes reading more accessible for all readers. When you subscribe to Diverse Voices and Black Voices large print standing order plans, you can assure equity in both content and format.

Ensuring collection diversity reaffirms the value and experiences of everyone in your community. Expanded representation also gives community members opportunities to explore different cultures, growing understanding and appreciation of diversity and inclusion.
