Containing over 180,000 titles and 32 million pages, Eighteenth Century Collections Online is the largest and most comprehensive online historical archive of its kind and an essential resource for advanced study of the eighteenth century. The collection contains every significant English-language and foreign-language title printed in the United Kingdom between the years 1701 and 1800.
Recently, ccAdvisor reviewed the collection and praised its “vast primary source collection” and “cross-searchability.”
On Content
“There is a lot to this database. Its primary source collection is vast, and the cross-searchability with Chadwyk-Healey’s EEBO is convenient. Comprehensive content for publications in the 18th century with the opportunity for deep dives into related works. The opportunity to view multiple editions of the same work is particularly valuable.”

On User Interface/Searchability
“Advanced users will find the Term Clusters feature a useful way of locating related works. Users can also take advantage of the table of contents and list of all illustrations. The OCR text provides opportunities for further data mining and analysis by the user. The in-progress redesign is a much-needed update that will add usability and appeal to this resource. One key improvement is ‘Allow Variations’, which broadens a search to include possible variations in spelling.”
