Monarch Library System, which serves Dodge County libraries, has recently acquired Gale Courses.
Through this program, patrons can access hundreds of instructor-led online courses through their local library’s website with a current library card at no cost.
Courses cover topics such as health and wellness, education, business, creative writing, computer programming, GED test preparation and more. Gale Courses are developed by expert instructors, many of whom are currently working at universities around the country, and have continuous enrollment dates.
Courses run for six weeks, with two new lessons released weekly, and new sessions beginning every month. Patrons can sign up for a session and pick the start date that best fits their schedule. The courses are entirely web-based with comprehensive lessons, quizzes, and assignments.
A professional instructor coordinates every course by pacing learners, answering questions, giving feedback, and facilitating discussions. Coursework can be completed from library computers or remotely from home computers.
