CHOICE, a publishing unit at the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL), reviewed Gale’s Eighteenth Century Collections Online in its January Edition of Internet Resources review series. Containing over 180,000 titles (200,000 volumes) and more than 32 million pages, Eighteenth Century Collections Online contains every significant English-language and foreign-language title printed in the United Kingdom between the years 1701 and 1800.

Read the highlights of this comprehensive review below:

Data Mining Capabilities

“The OCR text provides opportunities for further data mining and analysis by the user.”

Cross-Searchability

“Institutions with subscriptions to both Eighteenth Century Collections Online (ECCO) and Chadwyk-Healey’s Early English Books Online (EEBO) can cross-search both databases. EEBO provides coverage from 1473 through 1700, which is a nice transition to ECCO’s collection, which begins in 1701.”

Vast Representation

“The collections accessible through Eighteenth Century Collections Online include a broad representation of works published in Britain and the US, primarily in English but also in German, French, Italian, Dutch, Latin, Algonquin, Mohawk, and other languages.”
