At the end of March, we will be migrating Chatham House Online Archive to a new platform.
Based off the culmination of years of research and firsthand feedback from faculty members and librarians, the updates to Chatham House Online Archive are in-line with other recent upgrades to Gale Primary Sources interfaces. They will provide new and more-advanced research capabilities, without disrupting the workflows of seasoned researchers.
The new interface will include the following features:
- A new “Listen” option in the Explore Panel: As a new option in the Explore panel when you access a document, the Listen option allows you to access the recorded speeches in Chatham House Online Archive without opening a new window.
- Smarter Search Results: Take advantage of subject expansion, which looks for pseudonyms and synonyms of your keyword, along with the Topic Finder and Term Frequency text-analysis tools.
- A Streamlined User Interface: Consistent with other Gale products, the new platform delivers an engaging experience that allows quick access to search tools; relevant content; and collaborative features like Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive.
- Improved Accessibility: The upgraded experience is backed by features maintained for web accessibility standards to ensure equity of access by users of all abilities.
- An Enhanced Advanced Search: The updated Advanced Search interface provides useful tips and information to meet researchers where they are and help them get the most out of their search experiences.
- An Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Panel: As a new option in the Explore panel when you access a document, the OCR feature allows you to see the machine-converted version of the text in an article.
- “Chatham House Rule” filter: Identify content in the archive based on whether the “Chatham House Rule” has been applied. The Chatham House Rule states that anyone attending a meeting can reveal what was discussed but not the individuals who made particular comments during that meeting. (This feature will be available by the end of April 2024)
Existing links will redirect to the new platform automatically. However, for the best experience for your users, please touch base with your Outreach and Engagement partner to update links to ensure seamless access and usage monitoring.
Important note regarding MARC records. Due to changes in the structuring of the product and migration to a new platform, the existing MARC records for Chatham House Online Archive will no longer work after 3/29/24 and need to be updated. New MARC records are available at https://support.gale.com/marc/.
