Smarter Search, More Content: Gale Power Search Gets a New Look and Expanded Features

3 min read

We’re excited to announce that Gale Power Search is getting a major upgrade in early 2026, bringing a fresh look, improved functionality, and expanded content to support deeper, more efficient research across K-12 schools, public libraries, and academic institutions.

Whether you’re a student, educator, librarian, or researcher, these enhancements are designed to make your experience smoother, smarter, and more intuitive, without losing the tools you already know and love.

The new interface minimizes clutter and puts Basic and Advanced Search options front and center. A streamlined Select Resources tool lets users easily limit results by database or content category, making it easier to find exactly what you need.

Gale Power Search now supports more products than ever before. In addition to Gale OneFile, Gale In Context, and Gale eBooks, users can now cross-search:

  • Archives Unbound
  • Gale Business: Insights
  • Gale Business: Entrepreneurship
  • Gale Health and Wellness
  • Nearly all Gale Literature products

Note: Available products depend on your institution’s current subscriptions.

Users can now limit searches by database and/or content category, and even jump directly into individual source databases to continue their research journey. Database names are clickable and open in a new window for easy access.

In addition to periodicals and eBooks, Gale Power Search now includes:

  • Literature reference
  • Primary sources
  • Consumer health information
  • Business profiles
  • And more!

These additions offer new pathways into Gale resources and support thoughtful, well-rounded research.

Topic guides from Gale In Context, Gale Health and Wellness, Gale Literature Resource Center, Gale Literature Criticism, and Gale Business: Entrepreneurship are now included in search results, making it easier to discover curated content across disciplines.

Search results are now organized into a panel display that allows users to preview results by category or expand to view all results. It’s a cleaner, more efficient way to explore content.

All the features you rely on—like Advanced Search, Topic Finder, Subject Guide Search, Publication Search, Highlights and Notes, Get Link, and accessibility tools—are still here.

  • Periodical content remains available through Gale In Context and Gale Health and Wellness.
  • Topic Guides will appear in the Select Resources limiter and include the source product in citations.
  • Portals will retain their original overview and image, but now display results from all subscribed cross-searchable Gale products.
  • Users can still navigate directly to source databases using the Select Resources tool.

To help users better organize and explore content, Gale Power Search now includes:

  • All Content Types
  • Topics (from Gale In Context, Gale Health and Wellness, Gale Literature, and Gale Business)
  • Multimedia (Audio, Video, Images)
  • Primary Sources
  • Literature Criticism
  • Business Profiles

These updates are designed to support the evolving needs of researchers and learners across all educational levels. Whether they’re diving into a school project, exploring historical archives, or conducting academic research, Gale Power Search is here to help users find trusted, relevant information faster and more intuitively than ever.
