On the fourth Thursday of each April, over 37 million Americans at more than 3.5 million workplaces participate in Take Your Kids To Work Day. Yesterday marked the program’s 21st anniversary. If you’re one of those 37 million who brought your child to work yesterday, your day was likely filled with entertaining events uncommon in your usual 9-5 routine. At Gale, it was no different.
It all began with breakfast, chocolate-chip pancakes might-I-add, in our cafe with nearly 100 kids and their accompanying parents. After the orange juice was gone and syrupy-hands were wiped clean, it was time for a tour. Each group of 10 kiddos—and two chaperons—toured each department, learning about the different responsibilities and collecting goodies along the way. But the day didn’t end there, next up on the list of engaging activities: a scavenger hunt! Each department had an item for the kids to find—a red ball, a giant tricycle, and something from a Sci-Fi movie—just to name a few.
The latter part of the day was filled with community love; while older kids made tie blankets, the younger children supported a local animal shelter. The tie blankets were donated to Project Linus of Oakland—benefiting various children’s hospitals locally. On Tuesday, the kitty forts and pet bandannas will be donated to the Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit in Dearborn.
