According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, more than 13 million children in the United States live in “food-insecure” homes.[i] This means food is scarce and families lack access to enough food to maintain an active, healthy life. Share Our Strength, a nonprofit organization, has set out to change this. Their goal is the solve hunger and poverty in the U.S. and around the world. In 2010, they launched No Kid Hungry, a program with a mission to end world hunger by providing school breakfast, afterschool meals and summer meals to students in need.
Though ending childhood hunger is the goal, it’s not an easy task. That’s why Gale was extremely eager to offer our support. The accomplishments this program has made are truly inspiring, but we know that childhood hunger is still a growing issue.
Gale attends the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference yearly, and always ties in charitable donations to our giveaways. This year, we decided to support the No Kid Hungry Foundation. We were drawn towards the organization’s enthusiastic, giving mentality and could not wait to help them in any way possible. Our free giveaways were “Power Protein Packs,” large boxes containing a variety of snacks for attendees to enjoy while enduring the long conference days —which cleverly acquired the nickname “ALA Survival Packs.” Conference attendees receive a Power Protein Pack, in exchange for viewing a demo of our upcoming products. For each demo given, we donated money to No Kid Hungry, raising a total of $5,000. We are thrilled to have supported such a hopeful organization with a great and meaningful cause.
Gale offers endless opportunities to volunteer and donate year-after-year. Experiencing these opportunities first-hand has been extremely rewarding and we don’t plan on stopping anytime soon! Find out how you can help support No Kid Hungry >>
