Cool Stuff Librarians Do: Librarians without borders

1 min read

Librarians Without Borders (LWB) originated as a student project of Founder and Co-Executive Director Melanie Sellar, who attended library school at the University of Western Ontario. The organization’s tagline is Putting information in the hands of the world. Now nearly 10 years old, LWB’s mission is to “improve access to information resources regardless of language, geography, or region …”

The organization forms partnerships with schools, libraries, and other organizations across the globe to promote literacy, libraries, and learning. The Miguel Angel Asturias Academy in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala is LWB’s longest running partnership. Its newest partnership is with

Limitless Horizons (Saber Sin Límites) Ixil, which serves the community of Chajul, Guatemala, an indigenous village of subsistence farmers.
