New spotlight features have been added to the homepage that include:

  • U.S. President Barack Obama, celebrating his birthday on August 4
  • The late U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson, who signed the Voting Rights Act of 1965 into law 50 years ago
  • Nobel Peace Prize laureate Lech Walesa, founder of the Solidarity labor union that sparked change in his country 35 years ago on August 31
  • American actress Taraji P. Henson, star of television’s Empire

New homepage spotlights have been added featuring updated content on Evangeline Lilly and Jack Layton. Also look for new content additions on Alexander Graham Bell.

New portals were added this week:

  • Misty Copeland – On June 30, 2015, Misty became the first African American female principal dancer with the American Ballet Theater company.
  • Bernie Sanders – Currently a junior U.S. Senator from Vermont he has entered the 2016 presidential race as a Democratic candidate.
  • Laverne Cox – As an actress in the series “Orange Is the New Black”, in 2014 she became the first transgender person nominated for an Emmy Award.

  • Dr. Seuss the well-known children’s author has a new book What Pet Should I Get releasing during the month of July
  • General Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and America’s highest ranking military leader
  • Marta, the Brazilian soccer star who made goal-scoring history in this year’s Women’s World Cup

Google Sign In and Tools Available within Gale In Context Resources

Exciting News! Now available through Gale’s In Context suite of products is the ability for students to seamlessly login using Google Account credentials. The Gale In Context products that will provide this new Google functionality include Biography, Canada, Opposing Viewpoints, Science, Student Resources, U.S. History and World History. Now a Google for Education* partner, this new relationship supports Gale’s efforts to evolve from a traditional library content provider into the ed tech space by providing the educational technology, instructional tools and content to help our users be successful in school, work and life.
